ZONE 5 PERENNIAL PLANTS

Here are the plants that should be able to thrive as perennials in your USDA growing zone 5.  Unsure of your growing zone?  You can find your growing zone here.

But don't limit yourself!  Although some plants might not be listed as perennial in your zone, you should be able to grow most of them as annuals.  Other ways to extend your growing zone include: giving plants a deep mulching in winter, covering with a frost blanket, and/or lifting roots before your first hard frost and storing in a bucket of sand or wood chip mulch in your garage and planting back out in Spring.  All of our perma kales and collards can be propagated before winter by cutting back a branch about pencil-size thickness, removing all leaves except for the top leaf, and planting into a pot with moist soil on a window sill until Spring.
