PERMA TOMATO - Wild Everglades
In looking for the ideal Perma Tomato, we found it in the most unlikely of places - the Florida Everglades. This tenacious little tomato doesn’t just grow, it thrives, perennializing and playfully reseeding in gardens year after year. What it lacks in size, it more than makes up for in flavor and quantity. A single plant will give you hundreds of beautiful tomatoes. And best of all, it’s considered the most nutritious tomato in the world, having the most lycopene of any variety tested. (Solanum pimpinellifolium)
PERMA ONIONS - Walking Onions
These are our favorite perennial onions! Also known as walking onions, these onions are truly amazing. The entire plant is edible and there are many ways to enjoy their onion-ey goodness. The greens can be cut eaten throughout the season like a delicious green onion. They will send up a flower stalk with edible small onions on top (called bulbils), that are tasty. And the tubers can be thinned as your patch grows and the bulb eaten like a shallot. So little work and so much flavor! (Allium proliferum)
PERMA GARLIC - Garlic Chives
Year-round garlic flavor without all the fuss...what's not to love? Garlic chives are a beautiful, simple to grow plant that will give you garlic flavor all year long. Harvest the green tops and use as you would garlic in any dish. (Allium tuberosum)
PERMA CARROTS - Skirret
Imagine a perennial root that tastes like the sweetest carrot you've ever eaten ... this is SKIRRET! Skirret literally means "sugar root". Skirret is our answer to the question, "how can I have an endless supply of carrot flavor without all of the hassle and work of planting carrots every year?" Skirret has captured our hearts and has earned not 1, but 2 full beds in our garden because it's so easy, so yummy, and so prolific. (Sium sisarum)
PERMA COLLARD - Cold Hardy Collard
Do you live in a colder climate and wish you could grow Perma Collards? This cold-hardy collard is just for you! This awesome Perma Collard was originally bred in Michigan by Ken Oikos. He has reported that it consistently can handle down to 0 degrees F and has even survived -18 degrees! Wow, that's a seriously resilient collard. We love it for its tasty and beautiful silvery collard leaves. (Brassica oleracea)
